Isola del Garda

There is an enchanted place suspended in the waters between the Gulf of Salò and Emerald Bay. A green, elegant island with a centuries-old history is now open to the public and easily accessible to visitors. We are talking about Isola del Garda, also known as Isola dei Frati or Isola Borghese and located between Portese and San Felice del Benaco, 200 m. from Capo San Fermo on the coast.

Isola del Garda: villa, park, gardens

There is a majestic villa on the island, built at the beginning of the 20th century in Venetian Gothic Revival style, finely decorated and fortified with a crenellated tower. The villa is nestled in an incredible natural setting. A grandiose example of Italian garden lies on the main terrace, while the lower terrace by the lake has a fruit garden with kiwi, lemon, pomegranate, and orange trees.  You can admire rare flowers; palms brought by the Canary Islands grow on the side of the villa.

The park is a natural wild area; luxuriant plants abound. Recently, the park has been opened to visitors as long as tourists respect the environment.

Isola del Garda: from the Roman origins to today’s tourism

Isola del Garda is the largest island on Lake Garda. Already inhabited in the Roman Age, St. Francis of Assisi came here around 1220 according to some documents. During the 15th century, the island became an important ecclesiastic centre dedicated to meditation; it then changed ownership several times until it became the property of the Cavazza family, whose constant commitment to protecting and promoting the island has turned it into a destination for guided tours and events.

The island opens its doors from March to October. Tickets include the two-way boat ride and a welcome drink. Find updated rates on the  official website. The calendar of cultural events is very rich: classical music concerts and exhibitions are carefully planned to welcome guests and immerse them in the magical atmosphere of this place.

For those who dream of a fairy-tale wedding, it is possible to rent the location for a unique, unforgettable ceremony and celebration.
