To experience strong emotions, you don’t always have to travel hundreds of kilometres and work hard to find a faraway place. One example is Rocca di Manerba: this extraordinarily important archaeological site and strategic spot that dominates the lake is only a short walk away.
Rocca di Manerba is very close to Desenzano. Follow the state road in the direction of Salò, turn right at the crossroad in Manerba, and enter the hamlet of Solarolo. Follow the signs for “Rocca”. There, you will find an ample unpaved parking where you can leave your car. Follow an easy trail suitable for all ages to the archaeological area and the panoramic spot by the cross. After admiring the view, you have the option to descend on the side of the coast.
The cross on Rocca di Manerba is one of the best panoramic spots on Lake Garda. From there, you can admire Isola dei Conigli, Isola del Garda, the port of San Felice, Mount Baldo, and all the coastal towns. It’s an intense feeling. Your eyes will embrace the beauty of the lake waters and the reflections of the surrounding mountains.
As you climb toward the summit, you will see the medieval fortifications that recent excavations brought to light. Along the trail there is an archaeological museum displaying several artifacts from old settlements and natural elements. The building boasts a wonderful glass wall which invites light in and creates a continuity with the surrounding environment.
The area is surrounded by a wonderful natural landscape created by the Natural Reserve of Rocca and Sasso, Parco Lacuale, archaeological park and museum, and several hiking trails.
When is the best time to visit? All year round. To fully admire the view, we recommend visiting on a clear day.
