Discover the secrets of this precious spice and its beautiful flowers at the Organic-certified saffron farm in Desenzano del Garda
In the Montecorno Preserve in Desenzano del Garda, Raffaella Visconti cultivates and harvests by hand pure, organic-certified saffron. Crocus Sativus flowers, of which the precious stigma are dried, are harvested at dawn in the months of October and November. During the day, the manual handling of the flowers continues to prepare them for the drying process.
In the 17th century cowshed of Gruppo Rovere old farm, educational workshops are offered where guests participate to the production of this precious spice. Depending on the season, the experience includes the visit to the saffron field, crossing the farm for a short aromatic experience featuring different herbs and the secret garden of edible flowers. Guests can walk along different paths depending on the time of the year and the flowering season. The visit ends with a small tasting at the farm with home-made sweet and savoury products.
